How to lower your AC costs this summer

As summer overtakes us, the chances are good, you’re going to need air conditioning in Avondale, and your friends at American Home Heating & Air Conditioning want to pass on a few tips to help lower you AC costs this summer.

Tip #1 – Keep filters and vents clean

Clean filters and vents help your AC perform at its best. As your AC pulls air over its coils, it also draws in dirt, dust, and debris, forcing your unit to work harder and use more energy. Changing your filters regularly, vacuuming around vents/registers, and scheduling twice yearly tune-ups keeps your unit running smoothly and efficiently and your house comfortably cool.

Tip #2 – Turn off the appliances

To minimize the heat buildup during the day, try not to run heat-emitting appliances.

Tip #3 – Adjust the thermostat

Try to keep your thermostat at 78° or as comfortably high as possible while you’re away. For every degree above 72° up to 78°, you can save 8% in energy costs.

Tip #4 – Get a programmable thermostat

If you don’t already have one, let our expert technicians install a programmable thermostat in your home. Once installed, you can use it to set the temperature higher during the day and cooler at night. Programming desired temperatures is far more energy efficient than turning the unit off while you’re away and turning it on when you return.

We hope these tips will lower your energy costs while keeping you cool this summer.
